Republicans plan slew of reconciliation meetings at their Florida retreat

House Republicans are eager to hear a game plan from GOP leaders about their massive legislative agenda during their conference retreat next week in Florida. One thing is certain — they’ll have a raft of meetings to attend, if they choose.

The conference is set to kickoff at 3:30 p.m. Monday at President Donald Trump’s Doral resort, with Trump expected to join Speaker Mike Johnson and his conference for a 7 p.m. dinner and reception.

On Tuesday, committee chairs will hold a series of breakout sessions to discuss their plans for a sweeping party-line bill they hope to pass using the budget reconciliation process, according to three Republicans and an agenda of the three-day event obtained by POLITICO. Members will also have a chance to ask questions about various aspects of assembling the bill, which is expected to touch border, energy and tax policy.

Majority Leader Steve Scalise (La.) is scheduled to lead a panel Wednesday morning with GOP chairs about their plans for the reconciliation bill, including each committee’s proposals for spending cuts.

The conference is then set to wrap up at 11 a.m. Wednesday.

There will also be a Bible study, Catholic Mass and breakfast every morning for members. Several Republicans have plans to arrive early to get in a few rounds of golf at one of the four courses on the sprawling grounds near Miami International Airport.

New members will have access to educational briefings and additional resources throughout the retreat. Senior lawmakers are trying to set expectations about the legislative process for younger Republicans who are anxious to swiftly deliver on Trump’s agenda with a GOP trifecta — but still have to navigate a razor-thin House majority and a 60-vote threshold in the Senate for most legislation.
